Nick Rancis’ experience spans numerous roles including CTO, Founder and Executive specializing in venture creation, manufacturing and corporate growth within the renewable energy and water sectors. Mr. Rancis is the Co-Founder and CTO at Clear Comfort Water, focusing on a patented water treatment technology replacing energy intensive and toxic supply chains currently used for treating water.  Clear Comfort’s 20+ person team manufactures products in Boulder, CO and is venture funded. Prior to this, Mr. Rancis was the Regional Director for the Rocky Mountain Institute, managing programmatic financing and operational strategy for various vehicle light-weighting technologies (advanced autocomposites) and scaling market driven efficiency retrofits for commercial buildings. He was previously the Senior Scientist and a founding team member at BioVantage Resources (resource recovery from mining wastewater), which was acquired in 2012. Mr. Rancis started his career at Solix BioProducts commercializing highly efficient algae-based growth systems for next-generation biomaterial/nutraceutical production and instrumental growing the company to 50+ employees. Mr. Rancis’ research and academic background started at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, University of Colorado (technology transfer and proof of concept funding) and at Colorado State University as a molecular biologist.

Currently, Mr. Rancis mentors teams and startups from accelerators, NGOs and National Labs from across the Globe such as the United Nations Foundation, National Science Foundation (I-CORPS), Department of Energy, Cleantech Open and Innovation H20. He serves as an advising consultant for the National Center for Atmospheric Research facilitating innovative business models and go-to-market strategies for Laboratory Intellectual Property, Board Member of the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leed’s School of Business and is a Boulder County 40 Under 40 award winner. Mr. Rancis holds a BS in Microbiology from the Colorado State University, fluent in Spanish and holds seven patents.
