It’s about experience. We take on the complex and the daunting, the bold and the captivating. We strive to understand people on a deeper level and enrich their world with extraordinary experiences.

EchoUser focuses on making a complex world simple by partnering with organizations of all sizes to improve user experience for internal and external users alike. By pairing deep user research with incredible design, EchoUser staff are able to intricately understand user needs and then drive measured improvement in users' work and life experiences through thoughtful design. In our 10 years of working with clients, we have increased efficiency and delighted users in domains ranging from healthcare to education to data storage to public transit.

In addition to client work, EchoUser regularly takes on research and design challenges just for the fun of it. Because our crew is so passionate about driving positive change, the topics covered are typically common, large-scale, seemingly unsolvable problems. Recently, EchoUser took on the challenge of driving meaningful connection between people and food to reduce food waste. EchoUser researchers used interviewing techniques to gain insight into what drives people to regularly waste food in their homes. Top contributors to food waste included visibility to available food, convenience of eating out, eating habits, and lack of inspiration around cooking.

Armed with this understanding of user behavior, the EchoUser design team set to work on developing an app to help consumers gain more visibility not only into what they had available in their refrigerator, but also what recipes could be created out of available ingredients. Next steps include testing wireframes and doing observations to understand how an app like this might realistically fit into the lifestyle of a typical American person.

"Got Food?" is just a small step into addressing a global food consumption and waste problem, but it's a great example of the kind of work EchoUser goes after in our free time. We're a passionate bunch that's ready to contribute to making the world a better place.

Our session will focus on how the dynamic combination of user research and design sets companies up for success by identifying tough problems to solve and then solving them in a way that delights users. We will accomplish this in our NewCo session through the lens of prototyping, which is an effective technique for organizations of all sizes. We'll provide examples from massive city-wide water infrastructure to paper prototyping to spatial problem solving to ensure that all attendees can see the value this incredible technique can bring to their organization.

We will include a brief prototyping activity that is still being designed at this point, but the goal will be to show attendees how the combination of research and design is a sure way to achieve great innovation.
